The Indian Institute of Archaeology, Culture & Heritage (IIACH) is a national institute for archaeological research, cultural documentation, conservation science, museum studies and heritage education. It works in the same public system as the Ministry of Culture, the Archaeological Survey of India, the National Monuments Authority and allied organisations.
Archaeology, in the sense used here, is the systematic study of past human lives through material remains and their contexts. In India that record is unusually deep: Palaeolithic landscapes, Holocene settlements, early historic cities, temple and monastery precincts, medieval ports, colonial industrial works, and the living crafts and languages that still animate many of those places.
Culture and heritage studies include tangible fabric — monuments, objects, manuscripts — and intangible practice — performance, oral tradition, traditional knowledge. Documentation follows consent, attribution and community review where living heritage is concerned.
Conservation is a scientific and ethical practice: diagnosis before intervention, reversible methods where possible, and full recording of every treatment. Museum work is research plus public service. Digital heritage is preservation infrastructure.
Education is organised as a ladder: workshops, certificate courses, diploma-length training, field schools and fellowships. Recruitment and tender desks publish authenticated notices when issued, and point to Ministry of Culture boards for Union advertisements.
